Haja Dalanda Massally is a creative thinker and a leading entrepreneur from Sierra Leone. She is the founder and formulator of Shea & More Naturals, a brand dedicated to producing clean, effective, and safe beauty products. As a certified organic cosmetic formulator, she is passionate about using the wide variety of raw materials available in Sierra Leone. Her journey began in her kitchen in 2017 with a deep commitment to sourcing the finest local ingredients, empowering rural women farmers through fair sourcing practices, and preserving traditions like the making of authentic African black soap, which has been cherished for decades. Her dream is to share the rich, natural goodness of Sierra Leone with the world. 

Dalanda's work has earned her recognition on the international stage. In 2023, she served as a youth delegate at the World Bank Group Youth Summit in Washington, D.C., and as a delegate at the Young African Leaders Development Association (YALDA). She also participated as a vendor at the Sierra Leone Diaspora Investment Conference in Washington, D.C., with support from the Sierra Leone Diversification Project. In 2024, through the support of the United Nations Development Programme, she showcased her brand as a vendor at the Biashara Afrika 2024 event.

I started Shea & More to build a sustainable future for myself and make a positive impact in my community.

The Problem we solve

Customers are increasingly looking to repair and maintain their natural skin, but they struggle to find clean, safe, and locally accessible body care products that deliver real results without harsh chemicals.

Our Solution

We use mostly locally sourced raw materials to produce clean,safe and elegant body products that cleanse, repair and moisturize the body for a radiant and healthy skin.

Shea & More has been recognized as a strong recipient of the Africell business Heritage Mark. 

We have created direct employment for 10 youths and several along the chain of production especially rural women farmers.

We have a strong customer base in Sierra Leone and the Diaspora.

Entrepreneurial Journey

Our journey began in 2017, from a humble kitchen with a single product: authentic African black soap. Today, Shea & More has grown into a leading natural cosmetic brand with a walk-in store at 16 Aberdeen Ferry Road, Freetown, and a dedicated team of ten employees. Our product line has expanded to over ten effective products, including shea butter soap, cold-pressed plant seed oils, luxurious body butters, solid hair shampoos, hair oils, and invigorating body scrubs. This growth is a testament to the quality and demand for our authentic, locally made creations. Shea & More is now available through ten key distribution channels, including esteemed partners like the Atlantic Lumley Hotel, The Swiss Hotel, The Country Lodge Hotel, Hotel Barmoi, and New Brookfields Hotel. Our products can also be found at Monoprix, Goodies, Choithrams, and St. Mary's supermarkets, as well as the Tacugama Sanctuary, Aurora Foundation and the Mercy Ship. We hold bi-weekly sales at the U.S. Embassy in Freetown.

Challenges faced

Our main challenges include securing a sustainable supply of raw materials and managing the logistics of shipping our finished products to customers outside Sierra Leone.

Future Vision

Over the next two to three years, my goal is for Shea & More to become the leading clean beauty brand in Sierra Leone while establishing a strong distribution network across the West African sub region.

Advice to Aspiring Entrepreneurs

My advice to young entrepreneurs is simple, dream big, build a relentless work ethic, and stay focused on your vision. At the end of the day, the only barrier standing between you and your success is yourself.
